How can kids help shelter animals?

Children can write letters, make art, record short animal stories, or complete a shelter-requested service project with a grown-up. Start at home with one Paw and one small action.

Your first five minutes.

You do not need a shelter visit or a big project to begin. Sit down with a grown-up and start one letter.

  1. Meet one Paw. Watch an animal’s story, then have a grown-up check the current shelter listing.
  2. Notice one detail. Choose one verified fact about the animal’s personality or what they enjoy.
  3. Begin your letter. Write “Dear Future Family” and introduce the animal using that fact. Follow the Pen Pals steps to finish and share through a grown-up.
